WTFever.
Rowling announces that Dumbledore is gay.

If she'd put an inkling of this anywhere in the actual books, I'd credit her with having guts. This? Not so much. It could have been revealed when Rita was publishing dirt dug up on the deceased -- really, Dumbles being not just friends with proto-Voldie, but in love with him would have made for a hell of a scandal -- but that would have meant tweaking people in a way that might have hurt sales and caused a real fuss. So this gets an emphatic "feh" and not much interest otherwise.

Keeping in mind this is a kid's book and that she is still giving us one of the biggest characters in the book, I think we can be happy she bucked the system even this much.

I stopped buying the kid's book defense when Rowling said that she wasn't writing for children, but to please herself.

Considering she's a millionaire about a gazillion times over, and the book made a staggering amount of money just in pre-orders, I doubt that she was concerned about hurting her sales. I'd wager that she didn't put it in because she thought it wasn't important, and frankly I agree with her. Who Dumbledore chooses to shag is not relevant to Harry's story.

But it was relevant to Dumbledore's motivations in following Grindlewald and to the matter of his human fallibility, which took up enough of book seven that I do think it rated a canon mention if Albus was following proto-Voldie like a puppy just for the chance to get into his trousers, not to mention that having Harry have to digest that information would have been a more interesting use of space than having them hang out in tents and houses doing nothing but rehashing the same plot points.

But the books weren't about Dumbledore. They were about Harry. No one else's sexuality got a specific mention, why should Dumbledore's? It's totally irrelevant to the plot, and god knows the books are full of enough useless waffle as it is without bringing totally random discussion of Dumbledore's past lovers into the mix.

Eh, I agree with you. I guess she wanted to make sure that any conservatives who were reading didn't get upset over it. Very meh as an announcement. I still haven't forgiven her for that epilogue, mind you. I thought she'd plagerized some twelve-year-old's next generation Mary Sue opening.
